We took our children to visit Healesville Sanctuary during school holidays and had a great visit behind the scenes. The hospital was the highlight of our visit.

This is the best sanctuary I have ever seen in my lifetime. Try to watch the Koalas during feeding times because they move only once a day. You can feed kangaroos and watch tasmanian devils as well as platypus. I recommend to plan the whole day for a visit. There is a nice restaurant in the sanctuary where you can watch animals while eating. I can highly recommend this attraction.

We found time to take our grandchildren to this delightful sanctuary. Though we didn’t see all the wildlife nurtured here, we managed to see what we were keen on, the kola and the kangaroo. We also saw the Emu, Platypus, Dingko and a number of colourful birds. A few names have been forgotten. The Sanctuary is well laid out in every aspect. A number of cafes are available at suitable intervals. It was fun to watch the Magpies dive through the protective net to get a bite of whatever they could see. We really loved the cheerful Australians all along.

We spent about four hours at the Healesville Sanctuary, even on a rainy and unusually cool Saturday afternoon in February. You wouldn't expect to see all the animals, but we saw enough to feel satisfied. The highlight was definitely the raptor and parrot show, which justified the somewhat steep admission price. (But if you can prove you're over 60, why can't you get a seniors' ticket? Because imposing a bureaucratic requirement that you have to have a particular concession card makes the place an extra $4 - not a good look, Healesville Sanctuary: please reconsider.) The range of food available in the cafe appeared to be limited to chips and pies, but that was what we needed that day. And we saw a platypus.

I did the echidna experience with my boyfriend and it was so cool! We really enjoyed it! Unfortunately there was a big wind storm and we had to leave right after the experience. They gave me a return voucher. I came back on a school trip with my class. The platypus exhibit is incredible! They use a few more signs pointing the way to the exit but otherwise signage is good and the sanctuary is really great! I had a great time!

We thoroughly enjoyed our up-close and personal tour of the sanctuary. Being close enough to touch (but you aren’t allowed to) and take pictures of the kolas was amazing. In addition to feeding the kangaroos and seeing the other indigenous animals was much better than seeing them in a zoo. All the profits are plowed back into the sanctuary to help endangered and injured animals. It was a lifetime experience.

Never the one to enjoy the zoo experience, I found the sanctuary a wonderful space. We brought our grandson here and he was totally engrossed in the up close and personal experiences with the animals. Think wildlife rescue and breeding program rather than captivity and you will really enjoy this sanctuary.

Loved the experience at the Sanctuary. We did a close encounter with the koalas so got to get close to it. Were not allowed to touch it which I felt was great the sanctuary wanted to protect the koalas and not stress them out. I really liked the enclosures they felt less "trapped" than in other zoos. Didn't get through the entire zoo as we got there late but will return

I took the train from the Flinders Street Station to Lilydale Station (about 1 hour) and bus 685 from Lilydale Station Bus Platform 1 (40 mins). It is a nice trip through Melbourne and a portion of the Yarra Valley. The bus goes directly from Lilydale to the Wildlife Sanctuary on Sat and Sun. It was around $12 AUS for the pass hat covered both the train and bus round trip. I purchased at station. The bus stops in the town of Healesville and you can get off either on the way or on way back. Cute town in Yarra Valley wine region with shops, restaurants, and bars. I stopped for an hour and had a glass of Yarra Valley wine at Max Forbes Cellar Door. It also stops in Yarra Glen which looked interesting. The Sanctuary has a nice collection of Australian animals with “up close” encounters you can book ahead of time online. I got to feed and pet a kangaroo. Worth the trip! Bird show is a must see. They have a cafe that looked like it had a nice menu.

My both kids enjoyed it very much.It is open sanctuary so it may get muddy and slippery in rain as well as cold in peak winter.full of information about Australian birds and animals. As well as staff and animal keepers were amazing! My younger son(3 yo) was not too much excited spotting birds in wild forest.Probably for young kids or toddlers its not so much involving because they have to spot birds and animals. However my 6 year old son had completely enjoyed this place.
